Groupon can be a business’s best friend and worst enemy. Groupons can help a business find more customers, but the problem is that Groupons and Living Social are also very expensive for a business. The business must first offer a discount on its normal product or service price, then Groupon basically takes half of what’s left as a commission/fee. This leaves the business with very little money left to cover their normal expenses. Obviously when running a skydiving operation there are fixed costs like fuel, maintenance, equipment, staff and more.
Now ask yourself, if a skydiving company that normally needs to charge over $200 per jumper is now only getting $85 per jumper, how do you think they can keep operating and still make money?
Don’t get us wrong, Skydive Central North Carolina is not suggesting any skydiving outfit offering a Groupon is putting your life in danger (we hope), but they may be skimping on the experience, like making you jump from a lower altitude to save fuel, or rushing things so they can cycle through more jumpers to make up for the lack of profit.
